A peaceful fjord. The gaze of a polar bear. The thunderous sound of a calving glacier.
Don't just dream it. Live it!

These words resonate deep within you, an irresistible summons to powerful, fragile, and far-off lands. Vast, new worlds await your arrival to discover, appreciate, and protect them.
The once impossible dream has now become your reality. Your polar expedition starts now.
Where will you go? The Arctic or the Antarctic? How will you get there?
When should you travel? What do you want to see?
With The Polar Explorers, your journey begins with a conversation. Instead of pre-packaged tours, we offer custom expeditions. We’ll listen as you share your vision. We’ll exchange ideas. Our guides will use their knowledge and expertise to create a one-of-a-kind adventure just for you.
With more than 50 years of combined experience, we have crafted hundreds of tailor-made journeys across every continent. Our team shares a deep, collective knowledge of the polar regions, having traveled extensively throughout Antarctica, Greenland, Svalbard, Iceland and in many other polar regions.
We have done it all: from trekking across sea ice and sleeping in tents at -25°F to wintering aboard yachts frozen in ice and serving as expert guides on luxury, expedition vessels.
We know exactly what it takes to organize an unforgettable polar expedition. Whether your interests lie in hiking, dog sledding, overnighting in mobile camps, or sailing aboard expedition vessels, we understand that each journey is as unique as the individual behind it.
Our goal is to make your dream a reality.
The Arctic is an ocean covered in ice where you’ll follow the tracks of polar bears. Antarctica is a frozen continent where you'll march with the penguins. The North is accessible, inhabited, and dynamic. The South is distant, extreme and magical. Each pole warrants exploration. We offer purposeful guidance to help you choose which of these remarkable destinations you’ll visit.
The sea serves as the ultimate gateway to the poles. Select your ideal vessel to navigate through icy fjords and past icebergs as you discover remote lands. Each provides a distinct experience. Expedition vessels offer an intimate, immersive experience with only twelve passengers. Yachts provide personalized service with comfortable and refined accommodations. Sailboats promise a deliberate, relaxed pace as you move under the power of the wind. We will help you select the vessel that aligns most with your personality and interests. Together, guided by the elements, we'll venture beyond the charted routes into a fascinating, pristine world unknown to most.
On a small polar vessel, every zodiac cruise is a unique experience. Limiting capacity to a maximum of twelve passengers, your guide navigates a route dictated by the ice, exploring hidden coves and pristine shorelines. You'll find yourself being drawn outdoors more often than the lounge and you'll embrace the simpler creature comforts that define a true expedition. Rise with the sun to observe walruses and linger after dark to witness starry nights and the dynamic, dancing celestial lights.
It's an adventure, with purpose.
Luxury and comfort are the primary focus on vessels accommodating up to two hundred passengers. Larger, more spacious, purpose-built ships allow you to discover the polar regions while enjoying thoughtfully designed staterooms, attentive service, gourmet dining and a relaxing onboard oasis. A full expedition team comprised of naturalists, photographers, historians and field experts will accompany you and share their knowledge, passion and perspectives. In addition, distinguished guests like scientists, writers and world-renowned explorers will host select departures to enrich your experience and elevate your voyage in unique ways. You will experience these extreme polar regions with unparalleled class and precision.
Come aboard and break the ice between expedition and luxury.
Aboard a sailboat, time bends to the wind, the ice, and the birds. These vessels will invite you into the rhythm of the crew's daily life. Scan the sea. Wait for the perfect window to set sail. This isn't a cruise; it is a crossing.
It is total immersion. A way of being there, fully, completely.
Explore Greenland by dogsled and trek across the vast Arctic expanse. These are rare moments indeed - challenging, deeply grounding yet profoundly fulfilling. Here, the hum of engines and the ping of mobile devices are absent. Only the rhythmic movement of your sled, the sound of crisp silence, and the raw simplicity of daily life. You will travel alongside an expert guide, but ultimately, this is your journey of self-discovery.
We offer unparalleled flexibility. Are you dreaming of base camp at Baffin Island or an exhilarating flyover via bush plane? Perhaps you prefer a balanced adventure combining a scenic cruise with trekking. We can facilitate these experiences and more. We partner exclusively with seasoned guides and outfitters who determine the perfect timing and pace for your expedition. The polar experience is dynamic. Where would you like to begin?
You are the heart of the journey. There are no fixed itineraries, only your imagination and our shared passion for discovery. Your dreams and goals shape every step of the adventure.
Our purpose: with enthusiastic precision, we recommend the best season, the right vessel, and the perfect region for your adventure. We pride ourselves on understanding your wishes and exceeding expectations, often suggesting locations you haven't considered yet.

Precision listening, strategic advice, masterful execution.
Small-group, high-end expedition cruises aboard comfortable vessels.
Land-based adventures including hiking, dog sledding, skiing and more.
Tailor-made itineraries designed in direct collaboration with you.
Both poles merit consideration, and if possible, we encourage you to visit both regions. However, each adventure is personal. We will start with a conversation to understand your goals and interests, then offer personalized suggestions to design an expedition that aligns with your expectations, preferred level of activity, and timeline.
While the general recommendation is to visit during their respective summers, much depends on your desired focus - be it wildlife, dramatic landscapes, or specific phenomena like the midnight sun and the northern lights. These factors will ultimately determine the “best” time for you.
The Antarctica travel season spans from November to March.
November to early December signals the end of the Austral Spring, the perfect time to witness pristine, white landscapes, untouched snow and a rare sense of adventure. Fewer ships, abundant sea ice and nature awakening makes this a favorite time for connoisseurs seeking raw, stunning vistas.
January and February mark the height of the Austral Summer, the opportune time to interact with wildlife. Penguin chicks have just hatched and whales flock to feast on krill. Temperatures are milder. It’s the richest period for wildlife encounters, and often the most accessible for first timers.
In March, minimal sea ice creates more opportunities for exploration. The magnificent natural light is perfect for photography. The penguin chicks are ready to take their first brave swim into the frigid ocean, a moment keenly anticipated by the leopard seals that are frequently spotted at that time of year.
The Arctic is accessible year-round.
From late March to mid-May, spring welcomes back the wildlife while the fjords remain frozen solid. Fewer visitors offer a rare chance to enjoy stunning landscapes and natural beauty in solitude.
Between late May to August, the arrival of summer ushers in mild temperatures and a surge of activity. As the sea ice retreats, birds flock to the islands, curious polar bears emerge, and Arctic foxes hunt in broad daylight. This vibrant season is prime time for Arctic exploration. Explore destinations like Greenland and Nunavut. Circumnavigations of the Svalbard archipelago commence, and once-impassable fjords are now accessible.
By September, the sea ice has completely melted, revealing spectacular passages to Northeast Greenland National Park and the Canadian Arctic Archipelago.
The winter period is defined by lingering darkness, making it the premier season for observing the Northern Lights. Despite the intense cold, the natural light is sublime offering a profound sense of authentic polar immersion. It is also a prime time for land-based activities such as snowmobiling, dog sledding and skiing with daylight hours gradually extending as the Equinox nears.
Each season has its own nuances, natural beauty and unique challenges. We tailor our destination recommendations to your interests, selecting the perfect time and locations for your adventure.
The Arctic is a frozen ocean surrounded by land, home to polar bears, walruses and reindeer. It has been inhabited for millennia by Indigenous peoples such as Inuit, offering rich cultural immersion. Landscapes are diverse, featuring a wide variety of overland routes.
Antarctica is a pristine, ice-covered continent with no permanent human inhabitants (only research stations). Its coastlines are dotted with penguin colonies, whales, seals, and immense icebergs, set among panoramas of untouched, otherworldly landscapes.
Both destinations promise extraordinary experiences. We'll help you choose the one that resonates most with your travel aspirations.
